Sea Turle Reservation Program.

Summer 2023,I participated with Sea Turle Reservation Program at Nui Chua National Park,in the south central of Ninh Thuan Province-Viet Nam.

After a long journey from Ho Chi Minh City,we arrived at Hero House when it was dark.That’s a beautiful house leans on large block of rock.Thit Beach is viewed from the house.

There are 3 beaches here- Bai Thịt, Bai Ngang,Bai Hom where sea Turle lay their eggs.We were organized into group of two people each.We patrol and protect mother Turle from 8P.m to 4 a.m.They usually came to beach around that time,so if we see her,we keep silent and try to help her.We will move the eggs that are nearly the sea to safety.

If the turtles are injured ,we will feed them and take care of them.After they were healed we release them to the sea.

One night,its very dark,we were going around Hom Beach ,around 9 p.m.We saw a sign of Mother Turtle,she came to the beach.She left the sign look like tank tracks in sand.We followed that saw her in very big hole.We kept silent and hide when she laying eggs.That’s magical,we were so exciting when we saw more than 80 eggs.Till 3 pm she finished and go slowly to the sea.That's so exciting for my frist time to see that.After that,we checked the eggs.We make sure it safe till the baby turtle will come.

When we went back Hero House, all of us were so exhausted but we ‘re happy.

Every morning,we taught English the kids in two villages- My Hoa and Thai An.It was challenging task for me because most of them were playful.To keep them engaged,we introduced English word games.I would say a word, and the fastest child to write it on the board would earn a point and a candy.This created lively asmosphere in the class room and help kids improve their focus.This was joyous for us when they started converting English with others.

Afternoon,we went to plant mangroves forest.2 people were in a group: one held all the seeds while another pushed long a hole into the ground using a ion stick.We planted the seed deeply to ensure we wouldn't get wash away when the waves came.It’s not an easy task.

Mangrove forest can help committee in the coastal areas be resilient to climate change as it could protect them from consequences of floods,high tides,big storms….

I am very happy to have contributed my efforts to the sea turtle conservation program. I am that with the help of many people, more sea turtles will come ashore to lay eggs each year and their survival rate will increase. Ninh Thuan - a sunny land, where the young children always look forward to volunteers coming to teach them English, computer skills... I wish I could spend more time with them.
